Being able to focus our attention on what's important, at any point in time, is a capability that is problematic in people with attention deficit disorder.  There are two general causes of ADHD. The first is an under functioning of attention networks in the brain. The second is our brain attempting to process too much information. The result is we are overwhelmed.  They both result in an attention yet the cause is very different. Quantitative itchy analysis allows me to differentiate between the two.
